Janine Gray

Artist / Textile Artist

Artist Janine Gray who resides in Ceduna, South Australia was born at Koonibba, South Australia.

Her artistic talent began from her high school years which lead her to produce amazing artwork pieces to this day.

Many of her paintings relate to what she has visualised from her cultural journey, which has allowed her to form a range of amazing artwork pieces into traditional dots and stories.

Her paint colours used, relate to the natural beauty of the earth.

Janine has exhibited her work through Ceduna Aboriginal Arts and Culture Centre in the “Our Mob” Exhibition at Adelaide Festival Centre, Red Poles at McLaren Vale in South Australia.

In early 2017 on a trip to Ceduna Vattessa visited Scotdesco, Aboriginal community on South Australia’s West Coast. Vattessa viewed the gallery and a art piece done by Janine captured Vattessa’s interest. Janine was asked if she would like to do a art piece for Desert Gem collection“Nyuwaari” for Kalgoorlie Fashion Week 2017. Janine accepted and was supported by Serena Gunter and Melanie Sarantou from Arts Ceduna, the Premier Aboriginal Art Centre on the Eyre Peninsula – South Australia Arts Ceduna. Both Serena and Melanie assisted Janine throughout the silk painting technique, ending with a beautiful emu feather piece.

Desert Gem entered their collection “Nyuwaari”  which comes from the Wangkatja language meaning glamour, pretty, vivacious.
